The Commission on Sentencing is an agency of the General Assembly affiliated with The Pennsylvania State University (42 Pa.C.S.A. § 2152).  There are 11 Commission Members: 

• Two members of the House of Representatives selected by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, no more than one of whom shall be of the same political party.   
• Two members of the Senate of Pennsylvania selected by the President pro tempore of the Senate, no more than one of whom shall be of the same political party.  
• Four judges of courts of record selected by the Chief Justice of Pennsylvania.  
• Three persons appointed by the Governor including a district attorney, a defense attorney, and either a professor of law or a criminologist.

Ex officio Commission Members include the:

• Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections,
• Chair of the Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole, and
• Pennsylvania Victim Advocate.

Staff members are employees of The Pennsylvania State University.
