

Judge Rangos was appointed to the Commission on April 27, 2009 by Chief Justice Ronald D. Castille. She is a member of the Commission's Research Committee and is co-chair of the Sentencing/Re-Sentencing Work Group. She received a B.A. degree in English and Political Science from Dickinson College (1981), and a J.D. degree from The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law (1984), where she was a member of the Law Review.
Following graduation from law school, Judge Rangos served as a federal law clerk for the Honorable Maurice B. Cohill, Jr., and went on to practice law at two of Pittsburgh’s larger law firms: Thorp, Reed & Armstrong; and Babst Calland Clements & Zomnir. In February 2003, Judge Rangos was appointed by Governor Edward G. Rendell to fill a vacancy on the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County. In the fall of 2003, she was elected to serve a full 10-year term. She initially served in the Family Division, Juvenile Section before being transferred to the Criminal Division.
Judge Rangos is a member of the Allegheny County Bar Association, the Allegheny County Bar Foundation, the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, and the Women’s Bar Association, on which she served as President. Over the years, Judge Rangos has served as a member of the Board of Fellows of the National Center for Juvenile Justice, the Board of Trustees of The Pressley Ridge Schools, the Advisory Board of the Vietnam Veteran’s Leadership Program, the Board of Directors of The Pittsburgh Children’s Museum, and the Board of Trustees of the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. She also serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of the John G. Rangos Sr. Family Foundation, a charitable organization founded by her father-in-law, dedicated to supporting educational and health care related charities.
