The PA Commission on Sentencing develops Guidelines based on data and policy considerations. The Commission is legislatively mandated to adopt guidelines for sentencing, including probation guidelines, guidelines for restrictive conditions, and guidelines for fines; to adopt guidelines for resentencing and parole, and to adopt recommitment ranges and risk assessment instruments. Guidelines are periodically modified in response to changes in statutes and policies, as well as directives from the General Assembly. Proposals are published in the Pennsylvania Bulletin and vetted through a public hearing process. The Senate and House Judiciary Committees are the designated oversight committees of the Commission.
