Commission Members

The Commission on Sentencing is an agency of the General Assembly affiliated with The Pennsylvania State University (Title 42. Judiciary and Judicial Procedure. Part II Organization. Subchapter F.).  There are 11 Commission Members:

  • One district attorney selected by the Speaker of the House of Representative.
  • One defense attorney selected by the President pro tempore of the Senate.
  • Two judges of courts of record selected by the Chief Justice of Pennsylvania.
  • Two judges of courts of  record, one of whom shall be selected by the President Judge of the Commonwealth Court and one of whom shall be selected by the President Judge of the Superior Court.
  • One professor of law knowledgeable in criminal sentencing selected by the Chief Justice of Pennsylvania.
  • One member of the House of Representatives selected by the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives.
  • One member of the House of Representatives selected by the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives.
  • One member of the Senate selected by the President pro tempore of the Senate.
  • One member of the Senate selected by the Minority Leader of the Senate.

Ex officio Commission Members include the:

  • Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections and
  • Chair of the Pennsylvania Parole Board
