September Legislative Lunch and Learn: Exploring Pennsylvania Sentencing Through Commission Data
How does an offense move from the Crimes Code to a sentencing guideline recommendation, and how do the sentences ultimately imposed relate to that recommendation?
Join us for an exploration of Pennsylvania’s sentencing framework using selected offenses and reported sentencing data to examine how statutory grading, Offense Gravity Score (OGS), Prior Record Score (PRS), and other applicable provisions contribute to the determination of the sentencing guideline recommendation.
Additionally, staff will use the Commission’s public Data Dashboards to examine reported sentencing outcomes and conformity with the Sentencing Guidelines. Attendees will see how Commission data can be used to explore sentencing outcomes, examine whether sentences fall within, above, or below the applicable guideline recommendations, and explore other available characteristics of Pennsylvania sentencing data.
