Biography:

Noah Painter-Davis, Ph.D., is the Deputy Director of Research and Technology at the Pennsylvania Commission on Sentencing and an Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Sociology and Criminology at the Pennsylvania State University.  He is responsible for managing research projects that respond to legislative mandates, communicating research findings to the Commission and criminal justice stakeholders, managing the research partnership with Pennsylvania State University, promoting research collaboration with other universities and agency partners in furtherance of the Commission’s enabling legislation, guiding the use of technology by the Commission, and mentoring graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, and Commission staff.

Before joining the Commission, Painter-Davis was a faculty member at the University of New Mexico. His research focused on improving the effectiveness of public safety responses by developing and implementing interagency collaborations between criminal justice agencies, behavioral health providers, and community partners. In 2020, he received the Mentoring and Career Development Award from the William T. Grant Foundation, and in 2019, he received the New Faculty Teacher of the Year Award from the Center for Teaching Excellence at the University of New Mexico. Painter-Davis holds a Master’s Degree in Crime, Law, and Justice and a Dual PhD in Sociology and Demography from Pennsylvania State University.
